William L. Smith, Ph.D.

Adjunct Appointment, Professor and Chairperson, Department of Biochemistry

Work in my laboratory is in the area of molecular signaling, specifically as it applies to oxygenated derivatives of arachidonic acid called prostaglandins. Much of our recent work has involved studies of (a) PGH synthases-1 and -2 which catalyze the committed step in prostaglandin synthesis and (b) the EP4 receptor which mediates the actions of PGE2.
