As an exercise physiologist,
Dr. Pivarnik's research focuses on acute and chronic responses
of the human body the stress of muscular activity and environment.
He studies the exercise responses of females, particularly during
pregnancy and pospartum, and children, both healthy and those
with chronic diseases. His work aims to reduce risk factors for
the development of chronic conditions (e.g., cardiovascular disease)
and the morbidity and mortality \of those suffering from such
conditions. Recent research efforts have combined exercise physiology
with an epidemiological approach.
