There are several ways to meet the department's foreign language requirement. The most common plan is to select a language, then enroll in its XXX101 level in one semester, and in its XXX102 level in the next semester. Students who've had language training before coming to the university can take a placement examination in the foreign language department to obtain waiver or placement credit to cover one or more semesters of work. Similar exemptions are available to students who are bilingual. Sign language or competency in a computer language will not satisfy the department's foreign language requirement. The values of studying a foreign language are not met by acquiring these skills.
