It is well accepted that any undergraduate program of merit does more than mandate specific instruction in only areas of the basic sciences. An essential element must allow for students to explore interests outside a narrow range of training. Taking courses as electives does this. There are two general categories of electives, university-defined (general) electives and so-called non-science electives. Non-science electives are defined in handout materials available in the dean's office in the College of Natural Science (room 103, Natural Science Building).
