Bachelor of Science Degree Requirements
I. University Requirements
A. General Education Requirements in Integrative Studies: Arts and Humanities
(IAH), Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences (ISS) and Transcollegiate (TCC).
Requirement for General Sciences (ISB and ISP) is met by substitution for students
in the College of Natural Science.
B. At least 120 credits total with a minimum grade point average of 2.0.
II. College of Natural Science Requirements
A. Course requirements (as superseded by the Department of Physiology):
- Mathematics 132 and 133 or 124 and 126
- Physics 231, 232, 251 and 252
- Chemistry 141, 142, 161, 162, 251, 252 and 255
- Biological Sciences 110,111, 111L
- First year competency in a foreign language
III. Departmental Requirements
Undergraduate training in the Department of Physiology is primarily designed to prepare
students for postgraduate education. Although some enter the job market directly after
graduation, most continue their education in graduate, medical, dental, paramedical and
technical training programs. A typical plan for an undergraduate program includes meeting
course requirements in chemistry, physics, mathematics and basic biological sciences in
freshman and sophomore years. Courses in biochemistry, human physiology, physiology
laboratory, computer applications and other advanced courses typically follow in the junior and
senior years. All required courses must be taken for credit. Programs that do not include credit
for all required courses must receive prior department approval.
IV. Courses Required for the Bachelor of Science Degree
A. University Integrative Studies
- Arts and Humanities (IAH; 8 credits)*
- Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences (ISS; 8 credits)*
- Transcollegiate Course (TCC; 3 credits)
- Writing: Tier 1 (writing; min. 4 credits), Tier 2 (major; min. 4 credits)
* At least 2 courses in IAH and ISS must emphasize diversity (see catalog)
